Summer Skin Care
Written by Lisa Levstein, with
advice from Pamela Frank ND & Eva Piantioni
With the arrival of summer, many people look forward to spending time
outside in the sun. As the sun intensifies during the summer, it is
more important than ever to prepare your skin, lips and hair to endure
dangerous ultraviolet rays
Pamela Frank of the
Forces of Nature Naturopathic Clinic says, “There
are alternatives to the use of sun screens. The chemicals, even in the
so-called “natural” sunscreens, can cross the skin and get absorbed
into the bloodstream. I recommend the following simple steps toward
good summer skin care:
- Avoid direct sun between peak times - 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Enjoy at
least 30 minutes of sun per day during the rest of the day
- W
ear a hat and light long sleeved clothing if you are out in direct
sun during peak hours
- Take anti-oxidants like A, C, E, zinc, selenium, alpha lipoic acid
and Enzyme Q10 to help your body repair sun damage and to prevent sun
burn
- Take homeopathic Cantharis or Causticum to prevent and treat sun
burn
- Use real Aloe gel to soothe burned skin
- And, of course, stay well hydrated with pure spring water”
Other practical suncare tips include wearing UV-blocking sunglasses
and eating green vegetables. Studies suggest that lutein, a potent
antioxidant found in such dark green, leafy vegetables as spinach and
kale, may protect the skin against damage caused by exposure to UVB
light. Lutein also helps lessen skin damage caused by aging and other
environmental stresses.
Whether you're playing sports, gardening or just lounging, using the
proper skin protection can help prevent sun damage.
In our search for that 100% natural skin care product, we contacted
Eva Piantoni. Eva is the owner of Eva Essentials, the creators of
Scargone, and has spent the last thirty years researching skin and
natural therapies. In her research Eva found that grapeseed oil and
honey had a remarkable effect on skin healing and prevention.
Eva Essentials created Scargone XXVM, an all natural edible grade skin
care product containing Omega 3, 6 & 9 derived from grapeseed oil,
olive oil, hemp and flax as well as 17 herbs, berries roots and
leaves. Scargone XXVM supports Eva’s philosophy of providing pure
nutrition for your skin, right down to the cellular level. Whether you
use before or after being in the sun, this product is beneficial to
maintain nutritionally healthy skin.
Eva proudly points out that The Royal Ottawa Hospital is currently
studying the effects of ScargoneXXVM on the treatment of burns and
scar tissue.
