Feng Shui and Travel
written by Valerie Samson

In ancient China, Feng Shui was a closely guarded secret available only to the rulers of the day.  It is a study of our human instincts and how we react in certain environments.  As such, it was sometimes used as a “war science” and helped armies achieve victory by applying some of these basic laws in battle strategy when invading new lands.

Today’s modern travellers can take advantage of this same ancient knowledge to ensure a more relaxed, safe experience when exploring new destinations.

  • When selecting a place to sit in any new environment always try to choose a location which gives you a full view of the door and windows, while keeping your back to a solid wall. You will find that you are much more relaxed and better able to absorb the details of your surroundings.

  • When flying, ask for an aisle seat or one at the front of a section of seats so you have more space around and in front of you. Much more comfortable for stretching out and sleeping.

  • When sleeping remember that the positioning of the bed IS important, but ONLY if you are spending more than a few weeks in one location. A guest bed is a temporary accommodation so as long as you get a good night’s sleep, leave this worry for the more important area, the bed you will be going home to.

Travelling is an adventure, so get out there and enjoy the new sights, sounds and tastes of the world around you. There are memories waiting to be made!
